During this season of giving and new year 2025, Martha’s Vineyard Diversity Coalition is looking to you to help us continue the important work we are doing as we “lay the groundwork to eradicate racism.”
We are now fully engaged in the Education Committee’s MV Living Legends: Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) Elders Oral History Project – where Vineyard students interview BIPOC and Immigrant Island elders. These interviews are video recorded and edited to be accessible to schools, libraries, and community organizations for years to come as relevant educational materials and sources of Island cultural history.
Stories interconnect us all, and one generation learning from another’s personal stories and history educates, enlightens, and bridges the gap of understanding and empathy.
Gratefully, we have received grant awards, including from Mass Humanities and the MV Community Foundation. However, we are still $30,000 shy of our goal. We still need YOU to be part of the BIPOC Elders Oral History Project (click on the underlined title for more details or view a one-minute Elders Project Snippet to get a sense of the powerful voices – and to appreciate our commitment to continuing this project with professional videography and editing).
Your tax-deductible* donation of any amount (allocated to the BIPOC Elders Project) will be greatly appreciated so that we may continue to grow this project in greater service to our community and to serve as a model for others.
We’re happy to answer any of your questions. Below is a QR code to make giving even easier. If you prefer, send a check to MVDC (with Elders Project in the memo) and mail to MVDC EdCo – Elders Project, POB 9000, Edgartown, MA 02539.
Thank you, and may your blessings continue,
Jocie, Lisa, and Andy – Co-Chairs of MVDC EdCo
