Martha’s Vineyard Diversity Coalition Criminal Justice Committee

Goal: To address injustices wherever they occur in the criminal justice system.

Members: All Island police Chiefs, social service agencies, and those who are committed to social justice.

Activities:

  • Secured a grant that ultimately provided anti-bias training for all Island police officers and supervisors
  • Established an on- going research project to study and monitor arrests and racial profiling on Martha’s Vineyard.
  • Established a criminal justice partnership program with every Island police chief now having an MVDC POC to relay and process issues of concern in the community.
  • Serves as a communication network in the building of a co- response model to help build safety into mental health police calls, while addressing the needs of those in crisis. MV Community Services is now working with Island police, and others, to address issues related to mental health calls.
